Life at Währinger Strasse 72

Check out our new digs. Here's our living room. It's an "Alt Bau" meaning it's been around for 150+ years. It has heavy wood doors and the ceilings go on forever....

And we love it, especially since, when we were here in June, our real estate agent showed us only low-ceilinged suburban-style homes. Apparently, she thought Americans didn't like old things. She must have scouted out the only three in Vienna to show us.

Also, most Viennese apartments here come unfurnished (no kitchen sink even, no light fixtures and no closets). So we're thrilled to have a place to hang our clothes. We inherited this place from Philip Welsch, Timi's colleague from Bristol, UK. This furniture and even a miniature TRex and a penguin were all waiting for us.

Our dining nook seems big enough to seat 8 - 10 easily. Note my cozy work station by the window. Not bad, eh? All I need is some art. Don't you think these walls would look great with a splash of Donald Judd?

Oops. Houston we've got a problem: the kitchen came completely unequipped. No silverware or dishes even.

Irene, Timi's mom, came to the rescue. She brought over plenty of pots and pans.

And her old everday dishes, a relic from their wedding 38 years ago. She also outfitted us with cute car mugs for the boys' milk and heise chocolade. And lots of linens.

Our banquet is perfect for playing chess and bedtime reading of Peter Pan and Max und Moritz.

Our foyer/train room.

The boys' bedroom. This is how a room looks before the place is all jacked up with plastic toys!

Well, maybe a blik wall graphic and a stuffed animal or two would spruce things up here.
